Sports portfolio- layout and design:
When considering how you would like to design your athletes sports portfolio, there are a few simple things that you need to consider if you want to catch the attention of a very busy college coach.
1- Lay the portfolio out in chronological order, from most recent achievements to earlier ones. A college coach doesn’t have much time to look for information, and they will want to know most recent accomplishments first.
2- Grouping items into individual sections, beginning with the topics your athlete is most passionate about can make the document look simple, yet effective.
3- Try to keep the design element clean and simple. Big bold headings, boarders, and pictures can distract the coaches eye from the real gold.
4- Use a matched colour scheme that is not too bright, nor too dull. This will create a consistency throughout the whole portfolio.
5- It is a good idea to create a small logo or watermark for your athlete. You can put this on each page of the portfolio, making it easily identifiable in the case of a mix up or separation.
6- College admissions officers would be very appreciative if you were able to use tabs and labels for easy reference. This will save admissions a ton of time and will provide them with a clean, well-organised portfolio, that is easy to reference back to.
7- On the cover page, you should include; your athletes first and last name; the name of their current high school, expected year of graduation, full address and phone number, and an email address . You can get a little more creative with the design aspect of the cover page. However, I would still keep the flair to bare minimum.
